"Between Inscriptions and Architecture: The Practice of Recycling in Late Antique North Africa"Guest Lecture by Prof Anna Leone at the Universität Hamburg
22 March 2018
The Department of Ancient History at the Universität Hamburg will host a guest lecture by Prof Anna Leone (Professor of Archaeology, Durham University) on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 6:00 pm. The lecture will take place in room 01021 (Überseering 35, 22297 Hamburg). No registration needed.
Through the analysis of the inscriptions dated to the 4th c. addressing the reuse of statues and the restoration of public spaces, the lecture aims to highlight how the urban settlements were transformed in Late Antiquity. The major point lays in the progressive changing function of public spaces and its decoration. This for instance the case of Thubursicu Numidarum where a new forum is set up in the second half of the 4th c., entirely with reused materials, as clearly stated in the corpus of inscriptions.
